Euphorbia obesa

I was writing up the 'Where to Buy' page for this blog and was looking through Prick's online store to see if there was anything informative I could add to the page. My initial opinion of them was that they were expensive (which I still stand by) compared to other alternatives.

Now I'd been eyeing up some euphorbia obesa on eBay for about a week; they were typically £3.70+ for a 6cm+ pot, plus £3.60+ shipping. I didn't want to spend £7.50+ on another plant, though, as I'd already spent waaayyy too much that month, so I stuck to just admiring them.

During my 'research', I discovered that Prick had a 5.5cm pot obesa that they were selling for £5. To show that Prick was definitely overpriced, I decided to compare shipping costs to those of the eBay sellers I'd seen. Their shipping page didn't contain any information about the costs, so I figured I'd start a fake order and fill in my details until the shipping costs were displayed.

So I did all that, and when the postage costs became visible, I nearly choked. It was 89p for second-class delivery through Royal Mail! That's the cheapest postage cost I've ever seen. And second-class mail has always been good to me; I always get my mail after a maximum of three days.

As Prick's total cost was now £5.89, compared with a minimum of £7.60 on eBay (and bear in mind that buying on eBay always has some level of risk), I figured it was a no-brainer, and ended up buying the obesa, my budget be damned! Here it is, with a 50p coin for scale.

Looking forward to finding out Obesa's gender

Update (22/03/2018): Prick has now increased their shipping prices; 2nd class delivery is over £3 as at this update.

Here's a screenshot showing Prick's full delivery prices, for anyone interested:
